10 Tips for Comfortable Fall RVing

If you’re heading out on a camping trip this season, you’ll need to take a few extra precautions and pack some seasonal supplies. Here are tips for a comfortable fall RVing experience.

1. Watch the weather

Don’t let a highway snowstorm catch you by surprise! Examine the long-range forecast for your destination and the entire route. Weather on higher elevation highways can differ significantly from valley conditions.

2. Cozy up with a hot water bottle

When it’s not quite cold enough for the furnace, a hot water bottle paired with warm bedding is an excellent way to maintain comfort overnight.

3. Layer up your clothes

Chilly mornings often transition to warm afternoons, so pack layers to adjust throughout the day.

4. Be prepared for shorter days

Summer’s extended daylight is gone. With later sunrises and earlier sunsets, prepare for darkness by packing a headlamp for campsite tasks and awning lights for ambiance.

5. Pack snow gear

Even if snow isn’t forecasted, it’s smart to bring de-icing crystals, a snow shovel, and snow brush.

6. Fall wildlife safety

Breeding season continues through fall for elk, deer, moose, and bison — male animals are more aggressive during this period.

7. Cook cozy comfort foods

Stock up on warm comfort foods and hot chocolate for the season.

8. Off-the-grid necessities

Fall camping often means no services, so verify in advance whether you need water, wood, or a generator.

9. Combat humidity

As temperatures drop outside, humidity can become a problem in your RV. Open your vents or crack open a window to allow air circulation.

10. Be prepared for extra days

Pack sufficient food for several additional days to handle unexpected weather or if you simply wish to extend your stay.
